I was having a chat about the art of filmmaking with a great director, and he said something to me that I've never forgotten.

To be a writer or poet, you need a pen & paper.
To be a musician, you need an instrument.
To be a painter, you need canvas, paint, and brushes.
To be a filmmaker, you need equipment and a small army willing to follow your lead and work towards your vision.

I found myself with a creative itch to scratch but no equipment or small army, so I picked up a brush and started painting. I have zero formal training but I find it to be very cathartic and I'm having fun with it.
